Position Summary

We are looking for a Regional Manager of the Impact Hub Latin America Scaling Program: Supporting socio-environmental impact MSME to replicate and scale their businesses. This program will be co-financed by Impact Hub, Argidius Foundation, and the European Commission’s AL-Invest Program.

The program’s objective is to contribute to poverty reduction in Latin America by supporting productivity improvement and sustainable development of 60 micro, small, and medium size enterprises (MSME) from Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, and Brazil.

The Program Manager will join us starting latest by October 2017 as a member of our Impact Hub Global team focused on Latin America. This position is open to applicants residing in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, and Guatemala only (or willing to move to these countries at own expense).

Program overview, components & outcomes

As part of Impact Hub’s evolution, the organization is working with partners in developing programs that promote and support development of entrepreneurs and businesses of high impact around the world.

Thus we created the “Latin America Scaling Program: Supporting socio-environmental impact MSMEs to replicate and scale their businesses”, and are looking for an exceptional individual to join our global team as a Regional Program Manager.

The specific objective of the project is to support development of productive, business, and associative capacities of 60 MSMEs in Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, and Brasil, taking advantage of inter-regional and intra-regional integration processes, and with an orientation to support decent work creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

We aim at four main outcomes of this program, and related indicators:

Outcome 1: Development of mechanisms and business linking activities between MSME

  • 100 MSME connect through various business linking mechanisms.
  • 60 MSME have tools to improve their business linkages and access to markets.
  • 30 MSME diversify their markets thanks to associative schemes.
  • A web platform for linking, training and visibility of MSME implemented

Outcome 2: Direct support to MSMEs

  • 60 MIPYMES increase their productivity, develop their skills and improve the competitive offer of their products or services.
  • 30% of MSMEs incorporate innovation in their products-processes, good manufacturing practices, quality systems, environmental management or social responsibility management.

Outcome 3: Participating business organizations (EOs) strengthen their institutional capacity.

  • Five Impact Hubs have strengthened their institutional capacity and have developed 4 new services or management systems, benefiting 120 MSMEs.
  • Five alliances, agendas and/or public-private agreements for development of MSMEs start implementation

Outcome 4: Business Development Services Market (BDS) in Latin America has been improved

  • Business development services (BDS) supply offer improved and 4 joint services developed among 8 local institutions
  • Support for the establishment of 4 public-private partnerships for the improvement of the BDS market

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our regional and global team as Regional Manager of the Impact Hub Latin America Scaling Program. This individual will be responsible for overall program management to achieve the expected outcomes and deliver the program on scope, quality, time, and cost, in articulation with local Program Managers, Impact Hubs, and Partners.

The job role includes:

  • Planning
    • Identify and collect requirements from stakeholders
    • Review and refine program objectives, outcomes, and targets
    • Refine scope and create work breakdown structure
    • Refine activities, sequence activities, estimate activities resources and durations
    • Develop detailed program schedule
    • Review and refine cost estimates and program budget
    • Plan quality, human resource, and communications management
    • Identify risks, perform risk analysis, and plan risk responses
    • Plan procurement and stakeholder management
  • Executing
    • Direct and manage program work, in articulation with local Impact Hub and partners in participating countries
    • Ensure that program milestones and objectives are achieved in a timely manner
    • Develop and manage program team, including one program coordinator per country
    • Perform quality assurance in each country
    • Manage communications with program stakeholders, mainly Impact Hub Latin America Lead and Business Development Manager; partner Development Bank; and other relevant stakeholders
    • Conduct any required procurements
    • Manage stakeholder engagement
  • Monitoring and Controlling
    • Develop a program performance and results monitoring and evaluation framework to base monitoring, controlling, and results reporting
    • Monitor and control program work in participating countries
    • Develop periodic program performance reports for program Sponsor and Impact Hub Leadership team
    • Perform change control
    • Validate and control scope of work in general and in each beneficiary country
    • Control schedule, costs, and quality
    • Control communications and stakeholder engagement
    • Control risks
    • Control procurements
    • Gather and analyze program data and outcomes, and develop reports for Impact Hub Company, program funders and partners

  • Work closely with Impact Hub Company and Latin America Regional Lead, Business Development Manager, Communications Coordinator, and Operations Coordinator in identifying and developing new Entrepreneurship and SME development programs in Latin America

Are we a match?

  • You have relevant work experience in the following areas: project and/or program management involving various countries and as sponsors; management or strategy consulting to start-ups, SMEs or large organizations; and experience working in Latin America
  • Experience working, and ideally leading, start-up and MSME incubation, acceleration, investment, and/or development programs. At least having some partnership development and business development experience in these types of programs.
  • You have experience in Latin America and ideally in one of the focus countries; and currently live or is willing to live in one of the participating countries (Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, and Brasil)
  • You have a significant network in the sector that you can activate in support of this role.
  • You are passionate about and immersed into relevant topics, developments and conversations in the field of entrepreneurship, social impact and/or innovation.
  • You have a natural interest in working with entrepreneurs, key donors and stakeholders.
  • You are fluent in Spanish and English, and have strong writing and presentation skills.
  • You have excellent user skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • You are comfortable communicating with several stakeholders and able to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and distributed teams.
  • You are open-minded, self-reliant, and excited about being part of a diverse, fast-paced, global start-up environment.
  • You are able to demonstrate key components of the Impact Hub approach: entrepreneurship, collaboration, innovation and exceptional execution ability.
